What It Lost Was Love
The pet hospital.
Kellen took the wolfhound out. Previously, the wolfhound had been poisoned, and it was emaciated with dull fur and unable to stand up.
After a few days of treatment in the hospital, it had already recovered.
Although it still looked quite thin, its spirits had improved significantly.
Back at the Murray family's house, Mrs. Alana was coming out of the sunroom holding a pot of flowers.
She was surprised to see Susie bringing back the wolfhound.
"Is this the wolfhound you mentioned before?" she asked.
Susie nodded while holding the dog's leash. "Yes, Grandma Chloe. Can I keep it?"
The family already had a cat and a dog, and Susie was unsure whether Grandma Chloe would agree to it. If she didn't, she would let her father take it back to the Morton family.
Mrs. Alana nodded. "You can. But..."
Susie's heart skipped a beat.
Mrs. Alana looked at the wolfhound.
It was so tall, yet so thin.
"Let Ada give it some food! It's so thin," Mrs. Alana said.
Susie breathed a sigh of relief and said happily, "Thank you, Grandma Chloe!" She took the dog inside and ran, but then she heard Mrs. Alana say, "Wait!"
Susie's heart skipped a beat again... Did Grandma Chloe change her mind?
"Grandma Chloe?" Susie turned her head and asked in confusion.
Mrs. Alana squinted and stared at her forehead. "What happened to your forehead?"
This time, Kellen's heart skipped a beat. He didn't apply the red medicine this time!
Such a small piece of redness, and the old woman could still see it.
Kellen rubbed Susie's head and "accidentally" pushed her bangs down to cover her forehead. "It's nothing. Just a mosquito bite."
Mrs. Alana put down the pot of flowers, wiped her hands with a towel, and walked over. "Is it?"
Kellen coughed and said, "Yeah. Oh, I have to go take care of something upstairs."
He walked away after speaking.
Mrs. Alana crouched down and lifted up Susie's hair, revealing a red swelling on her forehead that was about the size of a thumbnail and even had a bit of a bruise.
She immediately tensed up and shouted, "Kellen!"
Kellen's long legs had already stepped into the house and disappeared after only two steps.
Susie smiled, touched Grandma Chloe's head with her small hand, and said, "It's okay, Grandma Chloe. It doesn't hurt at all. I was playing with the dog, and it accidentally threw a stone that hit me."
She was honest and told her how she was playing with the dog and throwing stones, her face lit up with joy.
Mrs. Alana frowned.
She had been hit on the forehead by a stone that was covered in dog saliva. Looking at the swollen area, no one knew if it had broken the skin or not.
"After we finish eating, come with me to get a vaccination," she said.
Susie's smile instantly froze and puzzled.
After dinner, Susie dawdled and kept changing her mind, saying she wanted to feed the parrot, the cat, and then the wolfdog. She even wanted to give the wolfdog a name.
Anyway, she didn't want to go...
Lucy laughed, "Sister, are you scared? The last time I got a shot, you weren't like this!"
Susie denied, "Nonsense, I'm not scared! It's just that the wolfdog isn't feeling well... it was given poison by someone, and Dad said its stomach was burned, so I have to feed it."
Wade chimed in, "That's right!"
If her little sister wasn't afraid of ghosts, how could she be afraid of getting a shot?
Getting a shot was like sprinkling water for her~
Susie squatted on the steps and watched the wolfdog eat while leaning on her knees.
The family had added a new member.
In the pet department, Alex's position was unshakable (at least in its own opinion), and Grandpa Turtle's status was also untouchable.
Besides these two "untouchable" members, there were also Melina the Tabby, the stray dog who had lost its companion named Watcher, and the wolfdog who had been poisoned with rat poison.
One bird, one turtle, one cat, and two dogs.
"What should we name it?" Susie asked, tilting her head and looking at the wolfdog, who was eating listlessly.
Watcher, who had become familiar with the family, wagged its tail and crept up behind Susie like an old man, using its body to act as a cushion for her.
Melina crouched on a tree, eyeing Alex hungrily with a hunting posture.
Alex jumped from Susie's shoulder to Watcher's shoulder, using its beak to nibble on Watcher's head, "Hey man, do you know what's going to happen soon?"
Watcher accepted it without resistance, unable to fight back or curse.
"You said you didn't know," Alex said.
Watcher remained silent.
Susie, Wade, and Lucy were all puzzled.
Mitch narrowed his eyes and looked at Alex.
Verbal nonsense was its way of playing...
But Alex's status was special, not only as a harbinger of flying creatures, but sometimes its words were also a kind of prophecy.
A big event? Blood flowing like a river?
... Mitch buried his head in the book.
At that moment, Melina suddenly leaped down from the tree and pounced towards Alex!
Alex was startled and flew up, exclaiming, "Holy crap, holy crap!"
It didn't expect Susie to lay a hand on it even in front of Old Liu.
One feather was plucked off from its wings.
It really was a scene of "rivers of blood"!
Mitch couldn't help but rub his forehead.
The hints about Susie in the book hadn't appeared for a long time, and he felt a bit uneasy.
Susie grabbed Melina and scolded her, "Melina, you're not allowed to bully Alex!"
Melina crouched in front of Susie obediently and meowed pitifully.
Suddenly, Susie thought of something and asked, "Did Alex bully you at home again?"
Melina, "Meow meow meow!" (ಥ _ ಥ)
Alex couldn't take it anymore.
It flew onto Susie's shoulder, tears welling up in its eyes, and whimpered, "Boo hoo hoo, it's all my fault. Old Liu just wanted to get back at me. It's not your fault. I don't want you to fight because of me!"
Susie’s puzzled.
This sounded like an apology and admitting guilt, but there was something off about it.
Not sure, she looked at Alex.
Alex had a feather in its mouth and was trying hard to put it back in place, looking very forlorn. "It's okay, I only lost a wing, but Old Liu lost love!"
Susie’s puzzled.
Da Tou Han, "?"
Wade remained silent.
Everyone remained silent.
Where did this bird learn so many lines? What does it do at home all day?
